Reducing construction and demolition materials, and constructing sustainable projects provide numerous benefits:
- Less waste leads to fewer disposal facilities, potentially reducing associated environmental issues including methane gas emissions which contribute to global climate change.
- Reducing, reusing and recycling construction and demolition materials offsets the need to extract and consume virgin resources.
- Deconstruction and selective demolition methods divert large amounts of materials from disposal and provide business opportunities.
- Recovered materials can be donated to qualified charities, resulting in tax benefits. (source:www.epa.gov)
From the small things (recycling office paper, bottles, cans and other recyclables) to the large (reducing paperwork through electronic plans transmissions, electronic archival for files, paperless meetings, LEED certification, recycling/salvage of construction site waste) Ben Hur Construction’s actions illustrate more responsible choices.
