Amoxil for sinus infection – is it good? | Ben Hur Construction

To treat inflammation of the maxillary sinuses, a doctor can prescribe a variety of medications. Often, in case of sinusitis, the doctor is prescribed Amoxil, which considered to be very effective in treating diseases of a bacterial nature. Its action is aimed to attack microorganisms, which are the causative agents of the inflammatory process in the sinuses.

The drug is a semisynthetic antibiotic and belongs to the penicillin group, providing a sufficiently wide active spectrum (it successfully manages to cope not only with gram-positive but also gram-negative microorganisms).

Features of the drug are associated with the destruction of protein synthesis in bacterial walls, destroying bacteria. It occurs under the influence of special enzymes, beta-lactamases, but some microorganisms are not sensitive to these enzymes so, concerning them, the described antibiotic is useless.

One of the features of this drug is its acid resistance, as well as the possibility of using for the treatment of a variety of otolaryngological infections, including sinusitis.

The action of the drug

Amoxil in the treatment sinusitis is taken orally and immediately after that it is absorbed by the digestive system, but does not collapse there due to its acid resistance.

Its penetration into the tissue and through the histohematetic barriers occurs quite easily, where it produces the following effect: destroying harmful micro-organisms; preventing their reproduction; improving local immunity.

Partial biotransformation of the drug occurs in the liver, and its withdrawal is carried out through the kidneys and bile.

Dosage and administration

Amoxil is produced in the form of tablets, capsules, and granules, from which a suspension is prepared. Less often it can be used as a solution for intramuscular injections.

The correct dosage of Amoxil for sinusitis is prescribed only by a doctor. It is affected by a relatively large number of factors and parameters: the weight; age; allergic reactions; gender identity; individual intolerance; other personal characteristics.

Together with this drug, other medicines are often prescribed, since it is possible to cope with inflammation of the maxillary sinuses only through complex therapy.

How to take Amoxil for sinusitis in children and adults

Usually, the medicine is allowed for children who have already reached the age of two. If they are not yet five, it is prescribed in the form of a suspension, the powder that has a pleasant fruity smell and is bred in water.

During a day you need to drink a maximum of 375 mg of such a suspension.

Children who are already five years old, but not yet ten, should take 250 mg tablet three times a day. The therapeutic course, in this case, is a week, but if necessary, the doctor can add a few more days of admission.

Children, beginning with the age of ten, and adults, are prescribed a maximum of 1500 mg per day.
